Colquitt County Arts Center's Dance Program

The Colquitt County Arts Center has two dance teachers, who bring great programs to all ages of children, including boys and girls, beginner level to advanced classes and adult dance classes, as well.
The dance departments offer dance classes in ballet, pointe, modern jazz, tap, creative movement and dance for gymnasts. It is open to everyone to come and learn to dance. The classes teach dance, self-esteem, create lasting friendship and begin a life-long journey though the arts. There are class prices and scholarship to fit everyone’s needs.
Welcoming our dancers into the classes are Lovedy Griner and Jackie Allen. Both of these teachers have excellent dance backgrounds and have a tremendous love for children’s dance.
Griner has been working with the Arts Center for two years. She has been inspirational in recreating the center’s dance department. She teaches on Monday afternoon and her dance program is designed for young children ages 3 to 9 years old. Her classes cover all of the classic dance forms including ballet, tap and jazz for young dancers. She will be having an open house on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Allen has rejoined the dance department. She is teaching ballet, pointe, modern, hip hop, jazz, tap, adult dance, creative movement and dance for gymnasts. Her classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and her program is called Jackie’s School of Dance at the Arts Center.
This December you will see “visions of sugar plums” dancing in everyone’s heads. At Christmas time there will be a wonderful production by Griner’s dancers in the Wright Auditorium and Allen’s classes will “go on the road” to all of the nursing homes and assisted living centers around Moultrie.
Spring will follow with its Annual Spring Recital. This is a beautiful time of year, seeing all of the dancers in their beautiful costumes which sparkle and bring such delight to our dancers.
The dance program at the arts center brings delight to everyone’s eyes and puts smiles on everyone’s faces, seeing the little girls pirouetting and leaping through the halls of the arts center.
Dance enhances gymnastics, cheerleading, diving and all sports and Moultrie is now included, as are other towns, in having dance classes for these programs.
Allen and Griner encourage everyone, girls and boys, to join the dance program.
I would like to thank David Hufstetler for coming to the dance department’s aid. He contributed a receiver to go with a turntable for the dance studio. The dance department has so many wonderful LP’s which will now fill the studio with beautiful sounds. Any donations to any of our departments are always greatly appreciated.
For more information about a dance class that fits your dancer’s needs and your schedule, you can also call the arts center at 985-1922 to register your dancer.
Always remember that the arts center is a place where dreams come true. There has never been anyone who hasn’t danced a step to a piece of music, sang a song, diddled or drawn a picture, touched the keys on a piano or strummed a guitar. We welcome you to a center for all of these classes. Join the arts center today.
